I have been up since the absolute crack of dawn, and I am feeling myself starting to fade, so this will be short.
I don’t know how it happened, but I hit the jackpot: I got to sit in First Class for my first flight.
I am spoiled for life.
That seat was so huge, the legroom was enormous, and it was a miracle to just hop right off the plane and not have to wait for everybody and their brother to get their honking carry-ons down.
The other two flights (yes, I had TWO connections) weren’t spectacular, but they weren’t bad. Aisle seats for both, but I did have someone lay down in my lap for part of one of them. I hate that. I suppose it’s mostly because my legs are long and there isn’t much for them to begin with.
The second part of the jackpot came when I got to Des Moines. Leisurely walked through the terminal to the baggage claim, arrived just as it started to move. (That never happens. It always seems to be many minutes of waiting). And! Guess who’s TWO suitcases were the very first TWO suitcases???
I’ll report on the show later, but I wanted to say a quick hello, how are you, did you miss me, before finding somewhere soft to lay down. Just to rest my eyes for a minute.
So — how are you? Did you miss me? I missed all of you!

What a wonderful travel story. That’s amazing luck for 3 layovers! Talk to you soon.

Everybody should get a chance to travel first class at least once in their life, don’t you think? And without having to pay for a first class ticket, that’s the best. Somewhere in my past I did have the chance, can’t recall just when but it was special.

I’m spoiled, we fly first class fairly frequently because Keith travels so much for work – between the miles and the free upgrades it’s quite the perk. I even achieved lowly silver status myself the last couple years and occasionally get upgraded when I’m traveling without him.
I’m so far behind reading blocks after my trip to Dublin that I didn’t realize you were gone but I’m glad you’re back.

I used to wonder what all the fuss was about, and then I got upgraded.
Best flight I’ve ever had came during my worst trip ever, I’d been stuck in the Bangkok airport for 24 hours alone with our Great Dane (stupid travel agent). There were no seats in steerage (coach) on the Air France flight the next night, so I paid for an upgrade. Business class (same as first class, almost) from Bangkok to Paris: best $350 I ever spent.

Suzanne, Yes, I missed you and I was totally bummed that I had to work EVERY day of the show and didn’t get to attend. ARGH!!! I sure hope you bought a lottery ticket, it was your lucky day for sure. Glad you’re back…Kathy

First class is great. They tag your luggage “VIP” for special handling, that’s why you got it first.
Several years ago, I used some miles to send my 78 year old mother to New York to visit her 95 year old mother. I got her a first class ticket. She had just gotten seated in the plane and the flight attendant offered her some orange juice. She told me this later with big eyes and said “and they called me by name”. LOL. That was her only time flying first class, too.
