Pet Peeve

I’ve probably  mentioned this before, but my biggest pet peeve is this:

That’s how we’ve always done it

(or some variation on that theme)

It just makes me want to scream or say something obnoxious like:

People used to use outhouses, shall we go back to all of the old ways?

Don’t get me wrong, I believe in learning from and respecting the past, but for the love of Zeus, people.  Use your imagination and give something NEW a chance.

Rant over.  You may return to your regular Thursday adventures.

Ah I just reframe what’s heard when others say that phrase to me and I hear “I’ve never been creative enough to come up with another way of doing that…” I’m sure its not what’s meant most of the time, but I at least then feel sorry for the person and pity their lack of creativity rather then frustrated… 🙂

Hooo boy do I feel it with you right now! We’re in the middle of a flap over copyright and I keep hearing some variation of “that’s how we’ve always done it before” as a defense. It makes me want to scream. It also brings up MY personal #1 pet peeve which is for someone to ask me a question and then argue with the answer. I’m assuming they ask because they don’t know, and that they’re asking me specifically because they think I do know. And then they argue. That always makes me feel like they think I made the answer up!
