out of bed, on their own, before 7 am
breakfast eaten, lunches packed, shoes on
time to go, turn off the games
out the door, on their bikes.
without mom.

When I'm not editing, I'm spending time with my family, cuddling with my pets, knitting, quilting, or reading. I'm also a part-time secretary for my local school district.
I'd love to hear what you think, please leave a comment!

They got out of bed on their own! Dang!

Suzanne, that is too sweet! Makes me wonder where the years went and how my kids got to be in the mid-30s. I love the picture and the view….you live in an idyllic setting.

Are you sure those boys are mature enough to ride their bikes to school? Do they know to watch out for cars? Cars can be unpredictable. Are they wearing watches? Will they make it to school on time?
Oh right, they’re 8 years old, their parents have taught them well and there are neighborhood watchers all over the place. I’ll try not to worry.

OMG! I’m crying looking at that picture…you do have to remember that I have grandchildren older than those boys….
It seems as I have gotten older, I have become a scaredy cat… I am thinking looking at that picture…what about the cars, or the bad people…
Mind you my kids did the same thing…but either it was a gentler time, or I was delusional, or I’m just old and need to get over it. (:(.

Oh, that’s a hard one…
The first of many. Ah. What a sweet photo you got of them as their wings are spreading.
🙂
Warmly,

That is one of THE best pictures! It just tugs at the heartstrings. Country life is so different from urban living. (But then country life for me in WA State involved drunk rednecks driving at 9am and hitting a school bus and killing another driver.)
Okay, I AM a scaredy cat! I would’ve been tailing them the whole way.
But, hey, I have sent my 15 yo DS over to events in other states with very little supervision and he survived. I guess all parents learn to let go eventually.
LOVE the picture. ENVY the getting up on their own part. Lucky mom!

Country life is SO different from being in a city. I have to constantly holler at Colin to not get too far away from the stroller when we walk to the park. I don’t know how one trains a child to ride a bike in this town. And once he’s trained, I don’t think I would let him go anywhere himself until he’s an adult with the terrible drivers and traffic rules. Ugh.
Great photo, great boys.

This is such an evocative picture, with the grey mist in the distance and the land all green.
It’s a good thing that letting go is a gradual process. Otherwise, we’d never live through it.
