Woosh

That’s the sound of:

(a) Time passing while I was having fun.
(b) Time passing while I wasn’t having fun.
(c) The freaking wind that’s been blowing for the last bazillion days.
(d) All of the Above

And the answer, of course, would be (d).

First, the fun: running/walking in the Race for the Cure — my official time was 49:40 — and it was slightly longer than a 5K. Out of 910 timed finishers, I was 535th. Go me! If I hadn’t stopped to use the porta-potty, or try to get a rock out of my shoe, I might have finished…505th!  More importantly, I raised $849, and that’s really all that matters.  (And there’s still time to donate, click here, you know: just in case you were waiting to see if I actually finished the course or not. Ha!)

I learned a lot, like…I need to get there earlier, in order to get in to a porta-potty BEFORE the race starts.   The lines were INSANE.  Right at the race start, there were like, 10 or 12, and the line for EACH was 20 or 30 people long.  I thought I was going to make it all the way through, but at the halfway point, when I saw the opportunity, I decided to take it…

Thank you to everyone that supported me and my efforts.  I’m planning on trying again next year, and am already working on trying to more comprehensively solve my shin splint problem.

Second, the not fun:  well, there isn’t really anything specific, just…you know…life!  Some days are really quiet and then other days are super busy with stuff out of the house.  I’m in the finish line to the production of South Pacific, and our 2.5 hour rehearsals are stretching to 4 hours…which doesn’t get me home until 10:30/11 PM.

Oh wait.  There is something specific:  Joe had a big bike accident on Friday.  He flipped and landed with the end of either his handlebar or one of the foot pegs (a metal tube) centered right on his belly button.  We were able to get into the clinic right away to get him checked out:  thankfully there was no internal damage, however, we are treating the wound on his belly like a burn.  It’s healing well, and I will spare you the picture that I took for posterity.  It’s just as gross as you can probably imagine.  He couldn’t stand up straight for a day or 2 — that’s a lot of trauma on those poor ab muscles!

Third:  the WIND.

IMG 1018 Woosh

We have had such gorgeous weather all fall — harvest is already finished (they were still working on corn until after Thanksgiving last year…), but this week, Mother Nature has reasserted herself and the wind is crazy-making.

At least it isn’t snowing.  Yet.

And now, it’s time to continue trying to get caught on up work:

IMG 1020 WooshI’ve got a cute customer quilt on the frame, but all I really want to do is this:

IMG 1021 WooshThat is Phoebe Mouse.  Isn’t she stinkin’ cute?  Yes, she still needs legs, a tail and the rest of her dress, but I needed her to have eyes and ears first.

Have a great day!  Don’t get blown away…

Such a rough life

4256220693 3d6d1324d8 o Such a rough life

A week and a half off for the holidays, 3 days back at school and then BAM.

Snow storm.

Yesterday, I made it out to the shop, and then tried to come home for lunch.  I kept driving right on by, as there was no way I’d make it into the driveway.  When Mark got home, he almost didn’t make it in with his truck.

Luckily, the boys know how to make peanut butter sandwiches, and I don’t think they were too disappointed to (a) have yesterday off and (b) not have Mom around.

I’m not really sure how much snow we got, but around here it’s not so much the snow as the wind…luckily the wind has died back down, but it’ll take awhile to dig the country roads back out, so…another day off for the school kids.

Will “needed” my computer a little while ago to look up something for his brother (they figured out that the Internet is a great place to go for hints on how to get through video games…).  I told him he could use my computer, but only if I could take his picture.

What a rough life.  Always having to put up with his annoying Mom. I wish I felt sorrier for him.

I have a thing…

For cherry fabric.

It’s just so darned…cheery.

I love this pink version so much I bought large swathes of  it on two separate occasions.  And yes, it’s the same print as the border for my Cherry On Top quilt.

And I think a lot of us could use some cheery right now.  I have a theory.  Tell me what you think.  If I ignore the existence of the blanket of snow and the howling wind hard enough, do you suppose I could make it go away?

The rest of you that are in the same cold boat will have to let me know if it works for you.

2 inches plus 20 minutes = bad news

We are getting a leetle bit tired of gully-washers.

Yesterday:  we got approximately 2 inches of rain in 20 minutes.

Out the back door:  Ugh.

3640951001 bc412352de o 2 inches plus 20 minutes = bad news

See that dark rectangle at the bottom left corner of the window?  That’s the drain outside my backdoor.  The water was backed up, and it was probably a good 6 inches deep back there.

Needless to say:  water was coming in under my back door.  Nothing of value got wet, nor was anything of value in danger of getting wet, but it was surely a mess.

Last night when I left, (knowing more gully washers were possible over night…) I stuffed towels up against the door on the inside, and sandbags on the outside.  The towels were damp this morning, and I’m glad I had them there.

I like rain, but this kind of stuff is ridiculous.

How long has it been?

dsc08700 How long has it been?

You haven’t had to listen to me whine about the weather in WEEKS!

This snowstorm has been predicted for days (It’s going to be the biggest one of the season!), which makes me roll my eyes and think “I’ll believe it when I see it…”

Well, last night, they said 2-6 total accumulation.  THen, this morning, they said 1 inch total.  Tonight?  The forecast is back up to 2-5 total.  It came down FAST.

While I was trying to get pictures, Joe came up to talk to me, so I snapped a few of him, I was sitting on the floor, looking up at him.  He was kind of fidgety (too much sugar at the school Valentine’s Day Party…), so most were slightly blurry.
