Counting Down: 25 Days

25 Days until I Race for the Cure. (I still have a long way to go on my fundraising goal, if you can help, here’s my personal fundraising page. If you CAN help, I’ll be eternally grateful).

Today’s run/walk: 2.3 miles total, .75 running. I’m using a dailymile to track my run/walks — they use Google Maps and let you zoom in and trace out your route on the map. It’s pretty cool. Today, I walked out to my furthest point, and then ran part way back. I’ve been walking for about 5 minutes, and then running, and then having to walk back — that last part seemed to go awfully slow. Today’s effort wasn’t too bad. My lower legs still don’t know what to make of this crap, but they don’t start hurting as soon, and they stop hurting sooner, so I figure that’s a good sign.

Last night was another South Pacific rehearsal. Those are going pretty well — there is a lot of talent, and in some cases, what they lack in talent, they make up for with enthusiasm. They are also quite silly. Quite. Silly. Oh my.

One night, it was a handful of young men, with one girl, plus the director and myself. One of the guys came in wearing just a pair of shorts — he’d been at a pep rally, and had been covered in whipped cream. (By his mother… But that’s beside the point).

THe point is, that the OTHER young men all decided they didn’t want whipped cream boy to feel awkward, so they decided to have Shirtless Rehearsal.

And they did.

Like I said, silly.

They are still blocking, and learning lines and stopping and starting a lot — which means a lot of hurry up and wait time for me. As a result:

Lots of knitting time while I wait.

And now, it’s time, once again, for me to quit mucking around and get some more quilting done. Unlike yesterday, though, I have a pretty picture to share, with some progress:

Full or part time?

rackofquilts Full or part time?

We had reason to fill out a credit application last week (I’ll tell you about that next week…), and after we told the guy how much I gross in a year, he asked if we’d consider my self-employment full time or part time – I answered part time.

Mark said “Yeah, the part of the time when she’s awake.”

Today’s Agenda

The boys are off to a basketball tournament, Mom went to Minnesota to visit her Aunt, Katie is home alone and I’m here at the shop.  Unfortunately, there is an auction in town, which means no parking downtown, and likely few customers.

So, what am I going to do today?

Couple of projects:

It does actually lay flat, I just threw it on the floor for a quick picture.  And I only hvae the 50mm lens, so it was hard to get a DECENT picture.  I added the border last night, that turn the setting triangles into a zigzag.  Now I have to figure out how I want to finish it.

I’ll also probably plpay with these blocks for a bit.  I have 36 of the log cabin blocks, the crazy part is the sashing.  Those sashing pieces will finish at 1in by 3/4in.  I know.  I’m nuts.  But look how cute it’s going to be!

I’ve also got to spend some quality time with the seam ripper:

Luckily there’s not much stitching to take out, and what is there is straight lines.  Ugh.

Because it is likely to be so quiet in here, I’ll probably get plenty of quality time with these guys:

It’s not my favorite season, (no Michael Shanks as Daniel Jackson), but hey, it’s still got Richard Dean Anderson, so I’ll survive.

I’d probably better get to it, though, so…have a great day, I’ll yak at ya later.

The Giveaway Quilt

stay tuned for the outcome, comments are closed, thanks  to everyone that entered.

When last I rambled about what quilt I would be offering in this giveaway, I think I left off at Plan D.

I’ve decided to go with Plan E.  A quilt that is already quilted and finished.

dscf00061 The Giveaway Quilt

This quilt was originally purchased by my Grandmother. It was one of those “hand-quilted” things that was pretty badly hand quilted. She let me have it, I took it apart, and then requilted it with a new backing.  I can’t remember the exact dimensions, but I think it fits a FULL size bed.

For a number of reasons, she does not need it any longer.  In fact, it’s been quilted since April 2006, sitting in a pile waiting to for the binding to be finished every since. So it’s not like I’m taking quilts off of people who are going to be cold.  It doesn’t really suit the style of my husband or children, though they don’t seem to scruple too much over which quilt they DO grab.

Nearly all of the hearts are quilted differently. I’ve uploaded a gob of pictures to my Flickr account:

If you commented on the Housewarming Party post, you are already entered.  If you haven’t entered, you can comment there or here.  If you comment here ALSO, I will only enter you in the drawing once.

But:

I know you don’t like to hurt your chances of winning, but if you could post about this on your OWN blog,  I’ll enter your name another FIVE times, just leave me a link to your blog.

I’ll have the boys help me draw a name on FRIDAY, February 6th, around 4PM CST.

Due to the downtime issues my blog has experienced this week, I’m extending the deadline until MONDAY, February 9th, around 4PM CST.  But that’s it.  I really will do the drawing that day.

You won’t hurt my feelings if you don’t keep the quilt.  Maybe you have a granddaughter that needs a quilt, or maybe you’d like to pass it on to a worthy charity.  Maybe you are a beginning machine quilter that would be interested in having this for some ideas and reference.

I do have to warn you that I have to finish binding it before I can send it to you…I promise to get to it as soon as I can.  I have to finish binding the Daisy quilt first…

Good luck!

WIP Wednesday, finally

dsc03305 WIP Wednesday, finally

It’s a quilt!  Waiting for binding!

(And after this picture, it got it’s binding….now to hand-finish)

And to make pillowcases!

And to help the recipient’s Mom cover a lampshade with the star fabric!

I’ll post close-ups of the quilting tomorrow — it was too late and dark to get good photos.  You can kind of see what I ended up doing for borders.

I’ve been thinking it’s past due time for a gratuitous puppy picture, so I had a photo-shoot with my assistant this morning.  She spent most of the time with one of those “Will you get that out of my face?” looks.
