Tagged: random musical things about me

Caron tagged me a couple of days ago, and I’ve been meaning to respond:

The trouble is that I don’t know what other random things to tell on myself, since I tell you a lot of random things anyway.

Here are the rules for being tagged:
1. Link to the person who tagged you.
2. Put the rules on the blog.
3. Write 6 random things about yourself.
4. Tag six people at the end of your post.
5. Let each person know they have been tagged by leaving a comment.
6. Let the tagger know your entry is up.

Before I try 6 new things, here are previous posts in this vein: random things about reading, quadruple tagged, and weird things.  Ironically, that last one talks about how I don’t like tomatoes, which we all know has actually changed.  Sort of.

6 Random about me:

I find that I do better when I have a sort of theme that I’m trying to stick to, so this time I’m going to mention 6 random musically themed factoids about myself:

1.  I took piano lessons for 10 years from Mrs. Nolan.

2.  I almost quit because when we moved from Robin Hood Drive to Seabury Avenue.  The piano was so cruddy that it wasn’t allowed in the new house.  It was left in the garage, and let me tell you:  it gets damn cold in the garage in the winter in Connecticut.  Needless to say, I had no desire to practice and nearly quit all together.

3.  We did get a new piano, and the piano my family purchased is the one that I have in my home now.  It’s a beautiful baby grand Baldwin that spent it’s first summer of life at Tanglewood (an estate/music venue in Massachusetts that hosts a summer musical festival).

4.  In high school I made the All-State Choir 3 times.

5.  I started college as a vocal music major at Ithaca College in New York.

6.  I frequently have a song running in my head, whether I want it there or not (aka an earworm).  My current earworm is Oh What a Beautiful Morning from Oklahoma.  I try not to share my earworms very often, but sometimes I can’t resist the urge to share my torture with others.

Now, step 4 & 5 of this meme state that I’m supposed to tag others and let them know they’ve been tagged.  I prefer to subscribe to the self-serve tagging philosophy, so if you are reading this and want to play along, consider yourself tagged.  Just remember to tell me when you’ve posted your list, so I can come read about you.

Hope you are having a great Monday!

I love your blog

iloveyourblog11 I love your blog

I was reading through my list of blogs and almost choked on my drink when I got to the bottom of the list that was posted at Daily Stitches — and found my blog name!  Ironically, I had been trying to figure out what to blog about today, so…for the time being, I’ll let this meme do the trick.

“As with most blog awards, this one comes with a “to do” list.  Here’s how it works.    I must answer a list of questions with one word…on the surface that sounds pretty easy, but I’m not so sure.  Here goes…”

The questions are as follows:
1. Where is your cell phone? counter
2. Where is your significant other? work
3. Your hair color? blonde
4. Your mother? Mary Ann
5. Your father? Carl
6. Your favorite thing? quilting
7. Your dream last night? unknown
8. Your dream/goal? fame (ha!)
9. The room you’re in? shop
10. Your hobby? ha ha ha ha ha
11. Your fear? failure
12. Where do you want to be in 6 years? here
13. Where were you last night? home
14. What you’re not? sleeping
15. One of your wish-list items? shoes
16. Where you grew up? Connecticut
17. The last thing you did? talk to a customer
18. What are you wearing? jeans
19. Your TV? off
20. Your pet? Katie
21. Your computer? brand-new
22. Your mood? sleepy
23. Missing someone? lynn
24. Your car? paid-off
25. Something you’re not wearing? red

27. Your summer? short
28. Love someone? Mark
29. Your favorite color? red
30. When is the last time you laughed? this morning
31. Last time you cried? unknown
Sheesh.  That was a lot harder than I would have guessed.  It’s taken me all day long to come back to it and just DO IT.  LOL
Now, the really hard part is that, of course, I’m supposed to pass this on.  I’m not really crazy about doing that, I really have so very many blogs that I like to read, and I don’t want to leave anyone out.  I’d point you to my blogroll, but you’ll probably notice that my blogroll is gone.  On purpose.  I had started to organize it many moons ago, and never got very far.  Do any of you even miss it?  I don’t use it, I have everything in my Google Reader.  I suppose that what I could do is export my Reader subscriptions again sometime soon and maybe just dump it to a page on my blog.
Don’t know.  Have other things to deal with right now.
Like still trying to figure out what everything does on my new toytool.  I’m so used to PC keyboard shortcuts, that I have managed to send several different things into la-la-land because I’ll automatically use the shortcut I’m used to, only it doesn’t do what I think it’s going to.
Not that I’m complaining.  Just sayin’ is all.
This morning I had to call my sister to ask her how to make it so I could right-click on stuff.  Man did I feel like a moron when she told me.  It was totally obvious.  (Hello?  System Properties?  Just like Control Panel, dude.  Duh.)
I had to pick Joe up at school this afternoon, his stomach was really hurting.  I’m not sure what’s wrong with him, probably just a virus, but he did take a hit or two at football last night, so of course my Motherly Worry Radar turned on, thinking of all of the really horrible things that could be wrong internally.
Didn’t mean to blather on so much, especially without photos.  I’ve been a little out of sorts this week, nothing wrong, just…nothing right.  Know what I mean?
And, joy of all joys, I have to go grocery shopping tonight.  Can’t wait.

List number 1 — Random things about reading (and movies)

I’ve been tagged by a number of people to do the 7 random/weird things meme that makes it way around every so often.  I have resisted doing it, because I’m not really sure what else to say that I don’t already talk about here.  Some of my best brainstorming happens when I’m avoiding climbing out of bed, though, and this morning was no different, so let’s see how this turns out:

1.   I have to have something to read when I’m eating breakfast.

2.   I’ll even resort to re-reading something if I’m really desperate.

3.  I read so quickly, and so many books, that I sometimes don’t remember if I’ve read a book or not.  The other day I was at the library and found a book by an author (Katie Fforde) that I didn’t think I had read.  Well, it turns out I had, but I couldn’t remember exactly what happened, so I went ahead and finished reading it just to refresh my memory. Luckily, it was worth the reread, although I won’t make it a habit of rereading her books.

4.  I do have a couple of authors that I reread, and will continue to reread for a very long time.  Lois McMaster Bujold, most notably.  I get something different from her writing every time I read.  And there are some passages that I will reread several times in one go.

5.  I also rewatch favorite movies and TV shows on DVD.  I’ve been through Stargate SG-1 twice now, I’m on my third go at Battlestar Galactica, and there are various others that I’ve watched and rewatched.  I can’t even count how many times I’ve rewatched The Lord of the Rings trilogy.  I should probably go through and add links to those shows and stuff, but I’m just not in the mood.  Sorry.

6.  When I say “watch” I really mean “listen” and sort of watch.  Because no, I don’t sit around and just watch TV all the time.  I have a TV in my studio and a set of wireless headphones.  I love my wireless headphones.  I love them so much that they are falling apart — the plastic coating on the ear part is peeling off.   They were a gift from my husband several years ago.

7.  I think he likes that I use them because it gives him the opportunity to sneak up on me and scare the crap out of me when he starts talking and I don’t realize he is there.

My list is marked List number 1, because I’m going to try to make March the month of lists thanks to the theme at NaBloPoMo. You remember in November when I posted every day for a month?  Well, they are sort of doing this all year long now, with themes each month.  I thought it mght be fun to try this theme, so we’ll see how that goes.  Or not.

If you haven’t been tagged, and want to do the random/weird thing tag, be my guest.  Pretty much everyone I know has already been tagged….

Weird mood tonight

I see lots of these funny blog quiz things, while I get a kick out of them, most don’t compel me to click through to do it myself. This one kinda made me giggle, though, when I saw it on Amy’s blog, so I thought I’d share. If you do it, you’ll have to let me know so I can come read what your personality recipe is supposed to be.

What Kind of Candy Are You?

Oh yum — peanut butter and chocolate, can’t get much better than that.

I thought maybe I should share something silly after yesterday’s deep thoughts….
