If you click the pictures, you’ll be taken to Flickr where you can see the credits for the pages. I’ve just realized that my text for Day 15  is running a little crooked (I had it crooked, and then straightened it back out, but obviously didn’t get it completely straight….)

I’m still feeling pretty lousy this morning, but:  I do have the first dose of antibiotics in me, as well as some Nasonex, so hopefully it won’t take long before the pressure in my head is relieved.

And I’m now ready to be a little more grateful and a little less irritated….

Day 14 Text:

One of the most important parts of Christmas to me is the music.  It would almost be easier for me to pick the songs I don’t like, rather than trying to name one or even 10 of my favorites.  I love them all for different reasons.  Many times, it’s the one I’m listening to right now that is my favorite.  It’s been several years since I’ve sung at church, but when I did, I usually picked Gesu Bambino or O Holy Night.

This  year I’m playing for the Methodist Church choir, which also means playing for 2 services in December.  I’m finding that this is primarily going to be a Jim Brickman year — as the songs that seem to want to be played are from the new book of his Christmas music that I purchased earlier this year.

My new favorite Christmas CD this year is Josh Groban’s “Noel.”  I could listen to him sing all day long.

Day 15 Text:

This year we will both HAVE visitors and BE visitors.  When I wrote about my perfect Christmas, I
had no idea that my brother and his family might come to Iowa for a visit!  Needless to say,
we are all quite excited! They will be sleeping at my Mom’s house, but they will spend plenty of time
over at our house, too.  We have a lot to pack into their 3 days of visit!

Next week we’ll be headed to my sister’s for a week.  We’ll get there on Christmas Eve — I’m looking
forward to enjoying Christmas with my 2 year old nephew.    He is just starting to “get” the magic
of Christmas, and the addition of having his big cousins to play with ought to be quite fun.

We have lots of things planned for our visit to New York City — the boys are quite excited!  At the
top of the list are visits to the Statue of Liberty, Ground Zero, the Empire State Building, Times Square,
and Rockefeller Center to see the tree.

Our biggest wish in the 2 weeks to come is for good weather so that all of our traveling will be safe
and without delay.

One last thing for today

Good grief, enough already, right?

I was just sitting here going through the Journal Your Christmas photo pool at Flickr.com (it’s a collection of all of the pictures from people taking part in the same project/class that I’m doing), and I was seeing several about wrapping paper and it reminded me that I wanted to blog about what I did today.

I wrapped darn near every gift that needed to be wrapped.

And: I cleaned out and organized our gift-wrap container. What a mess that was.

Whew.

My journal page about wrapping paper showed scans of the new paper I had purchased this year. I had purchased new paper because I was just sure that we were pretty much out of Christmas paper. And I was positive that we didn’t have any “Santa” paper.

You would think that this would have been based on my checking the gift-wrap container to verify how much we had, right?

Wrong. I clearly made this up out of thin air: we had MORE than enough Christmas paper from previous years. With what I bought this year, I shouldn’t have to buy Christmas paper for at least 2 years, if not longer.

There was even a full unopened roll of Santa paper.

I hope that one of our journal pages is “things to remember for next year.” If it isn’t, I’ll be sure to add one in. At the top of the list: do NOT buy more wrapping paper.

Of course, that assumes that I’ll actually look through my journal before I get started on next year’s Christmas, right?

OK, I’m really done for today now: have a lovely evening –

Suzanne

Christmas Journal — Day 11

2110007904 54df915d22 Christmas Journal Day 11

Part of the challenge was to use an ornament hanger on the page. If you look closely, the ornament hanging off the “e” is on one of those pesky wire hangers. Digital, of course!

You can click on the picture to view it at Flickr, and you can view it in larger sizes there.  (That’s actually true of all of my  Christmas Journal pages).

The text reads:

Our tree is a sentimental tree.  Many of the ornaments are handmade by a variety of special people, my favorites, of course, are the ones made by Will and Joe.  There are ornaments from Mark’s childhood, and special ornaments that I grew up with, too.  Mark put the lights on, but the boys did the majority of the ornaments this year, even getting them up high with the help of a step stool.  I miss the smell of a real tree, but there are a number of reasons why our artificial tree makes sense.

The ornaments from left to right:

Preschool Santa by Joe (it’s actually a tracing of his hand, the tip of his hat is the thumb, the beard is attached to his fingers).

Radko Penguin (gift from my Mother to me, I think….)  I like penguins.  Penguins are cool.

Will as a snowman –preschool

Tagboard candle with pasta embellishments — made by Mark when he was little

Felt kitty and doggy, made by my mother-in-law — these are some of the newest ornaments on the tree.  The boys each got a dog, cat, and some other snowmen to go with some snowpeople she had made last year for them.  They are all marked with their names.  They have quite a collection of really cool handmade ornaments from Grandma E.

Once I got down to doing this page this afternoon it actually went quite quickly.  I guess I just needed to be in the right frame of mind for it!

Now, to do days 12 and 13!

Yes, Will and Joe:

dsc00406 Yes, Will and Joe:

There is a Santa Claus. If you believe in him, he is real.

I found and read to the boys Francis Pharcellus Church’s letter to 8-year old Virginia O’Hanlon.  I’m not sure they completely understood it, but they got the gist.

And I know they got the next part: “No matter what you think you know or you think you believe, Santa will only you bring you gifts if you believe in him. And no matter what you think you know or you think you believe, you will not discuss this topic with younger kids, especially your cousins.”

Ironically, just as I sat down to read the letter to them, Joe had started scribbling on a pad of paper.  After I was done, he grinned and said “I’d better get rid of this”  And he started erasing and then eventually crumpled the paper up.

The paper said “Clues that Santa Doesn’t Exist”

Good choice, kiddo, good choice.

p.s.  The Santa figurine is something I’ve posted before.  I’m pretty sure this is what Santa actually looks like.

On Thursday, the boys were scheduled to go over to a friend’s house after school.  As luck would have it, school was dismissed an hour early due to snow, so the boys got to spend an extra hour!

I should back up, it wasn’t actually their friend’s house — it was his Grandma’s house.  Their buddy goes there after school on Tuesdays and Thursdays.  They got to go sledding and eat popcorn and s’mores and drink hot chocolate and just generally have a fabulous time.  The friend’s mom boys home.

Saturday night when we were at the movie, their friend’s Mom says that she has to tell me a story.

It turns out that they had been eating homemade cookies and had asked if they could each bring one home with them.  When they got out to the car, they discovered that they had forgotten them.

The mom wanted to get home, and instead of letting them go back in she said “I’ll bet you could get some cookies from your Mom.”

One of my little darlings said:

“Our mom  doesn’t make cookies as good as these.”

Hmph.

In completely unrelated news:  I got a postcard today from AnnMarie from our Black, White and 1 color challenge.  Isn’t it great?  I love the beads.

I completely forgot to scan and show of the one from Michelle that arrived a few days ago.  Unfortunately, it did not scan very well.  It is NOT orange, the background is a very pretty dark red.  I should try taking a picture of it in order to get a more accurate representation of the color.

Last, but most definitely not least:  I just got a phone call from my brother.  He was calling to tell me that he and his wife and mad at me for not updating their photo in Christmas Journal page from a few days ago.  (His wife sent me some new photos right away after seeing the ones I had made do with).

Just kidding.  He was really calling to tell me that he and his family are coming for a visit next week!!!!!!!  Remember my visions of a perfect Christmas?  Well, I’m getting closer….because I’m also going to get to see my sister and her family the following week……….one of these years we’ll figure out how to get us all in the same place at the same time.
