Fun Friday

Today turned out completely differently than what was originally planned — I was supposed to be driving to the airport to pick up my sister and her family, but….they missed their flight…and couldn’t get another flight today.  They’ll be flying in tomorrow — just in time for my cousin’s wedding.  I have to head out the door soon to the rehearsal — I’m singing 2 songs.  I hope I don’t sound too dorky.  One is “A Moment Like This” — the song that Kelly Clarkson sang when she won American Idol it’s first season.

So instead of all that driving, I ended up hanging out at home not accomplishing much of anything.

I actually don’t have a whole lot of anything to say, but I just got the mail and I had a surprise waiting for me: a package of goodies from Lynn!

 Fun Friday

I have a bit of a thing for Tinkerbell.  Do you suppose the boys will be willing to play card games with me with Tink cards?  I’ll just have to take them with me when I go to qiult shows where I’ll be seeing Lynn, so we can play cards in our free time (ha!)

The yellow fiber art piece is a business card holder — it is way cool.  You pull the ribbon and it pops up the business card!

Now I feel all guilty about threatening to stop being her friend after she posted a picture of me on her blog the other day.   (VBG)

I’ve got another picture to share, but I want to warn you that this is a bug picture, and people who don’t like bugs should skip it.

I was heading inside the other day after returning home from a car trip.  I did a huge double-take as I walked past the front of my car, as I found this fellow hitching a ride inside my garage:

 Fun Friday

I wish my car were cleaner, or that I knew how to use Photoshop to clean it up digitally.

Kind of gross, but it in a really cool kind of way.

Oops, gotta run!

Have a great Friday!

Surprise, surprise

dsc03086 1 Surprise, surprise

Over on MQResource, I organized a secret pal type swap.  Members who signed up will send surprise packages to their assigned partner every other month for the next 6 months.  As organizer, I decided it was too hard to get involved personally (which I was OK with…I’m terrible about sending packages.  It’s a sickness.  I think it’s also genetic).  I sent out the assignments several weeks ago, and have been having fun watching as packages start to be arranged.

Some of our clever members even went so far as to create secret e-mail addresses for themselves, so they could secretly e-mail their partner.

You can imagine my surprise when I got an e-mail from someone who claimed to be MY secret partner.  What!  Wait a minute!  How did that happen?!?  I don’t even know who to suspect, and I’ll bet that a reader or 2 are laughing over their coffee as they read this.

I have to admit that I am not very good with surprises.  When I was 15, I planned a surprise party for one of my best friends, Elysa, and boy, was she every surprised.  We got her good.  Several months later it was my Sweet Sixteen.  I had very specific plans for my party.  It was going to be a sit down meal, we were going to use the good china — we were going to have Chicken Divan.  (Speaking of which, it’s been years since I’ve made that.  Must add swiss cheese and dry white wine to the next shopping list).

Fancy invitations, etc, etc, etc.  I had it all planned.

The day before my party, my mom made me help clean the house, and she suggested I go ahead and decorate and set the table.  She even talked me into making up the food so that we could just pop it into the oven the next day.  You do see where this is going, don’t you?

My boyfriend arrived to take me to the mall for the evening.  We got all the way to the mall when he had to make a phone call.  When he got off the phone he informed me that he had completely forgotten about a rehearsal he was supposed to have with his church choir director.  We had to turn around and go back home.

On the way, he missed the exit.

And then we had to stop at his house.  I might be making this up, but I think he took an extra long time inside his house, while I stewed in the car.  And I do mean stewed.  I was so angry at him, I was just miserable.  And he knew it.

And then he finally got me home.  Yup, you guessed it.   A surprise party.  I burst into tears when I opened the door and found all of my birthday party guests at my house.

Remember Elysa?  The girl I had surprised?  Well, it turns out that when I passed out my invitations, she followed along behind me and told all of the guests that she (and my mom) were moving my party up a day.

We ended up having a lovely time, but I felt so badly about how I’d treated the young man that had taken me on the wild goose chase around Southeastern Connecticut.  He was stalling for time.  The missed exit and everything — just stalling to give the other accomplices plenty of time to get everything ready.

The thing that kills me is that *I* still had to do all of the work for the party.  All of it.  I cleaned, I set the table, I helped cook.  Or at least, I think I did.  I might be misremembering, but it’s MY story, and was MY party and I’ll tell it how I want to.  Oh lordy, I even cried, didn’t I?  I feel a song coming on……sorry………everybody sing it with me!  LOL!

I have told my husband, and all of the rest of the family that if they EVER throw me a surprise party, I’ll kill them.  Hopefully, they’ve taken that to heart.  I can’t promise not to throw surprise parties, though.

So.  Back to my current surprise.  My first reaction was NO!  I don’t deserve this!  But after wrestling with myself, I decided to just have fun and say thank you.   When I got my e-mail from my secret pal, she asked for some information about myself and I mentioned an angel collection.

Today’s mail (well, FedEx) brought an amazing box.  The Angels pictured above were in it.  They are Willow Tree angels and are the Angels of Wonder, Harmony, Friendship, and Learning.  I suspected there was more meaning than just angels in those choices, and an e-mail from my secret pal this afternoon confirmed it.

Thank you, whoever you are, from the bottom of my heart.  The angels are beautiful, and while I’m not always very good with surprises, I look forward to the next 6 months and more fun surprises.

Load Tray 2 Plain Letter

My laser printer doesn’t think there is any paper in the paper tray. “Load Tray 2 Plain Letter” it keeps saying.  I keep telling it that there is plenty of paper in the tray, but it doesn’t want to listen.

I tried to get help online, but the online tech informed me that my warranty was expired and if I wanted to pay $25 I could.  I’m pretty sure it hasn’t been a year yet, but when I questioned him, he didn’t respond.  So, I gave up.

Then I got mad.

I got out my receipt (I’m so glad I knew where it was…) and determined that it has not yet been 1 year, and I called the 800 number.  I was hot.  I was ready to give someone a really hard time.

And then I got the wind knocked out of my sails because both the initial person I spoke to and the actual tech were EXTREMELY helpful and couldn’t have been more wonderful to deal with.

Honestly.  I wonder if it had anything to do with the fact that both were women. And both sounded to be American.  I hate to say this, but I’ve had terrible luck any time I’ve had to talk to someone from a call center that is clearly located in a different country.

I do have to e-mail a copy of my sales receipt to prove my purchase date, but they were willing to let me talk to the tech before that took place.  And the tech, after asking me a few questions and going away for awhile, is overnighting a new tray to me.  Overnighting!

So while I was happy about the response, I’m now frustrated because:  the scanner/printer is attached to one of our older computers.  This older computer doesn’t want to boot up today.  Grr.

We didn’t do any more papier mache today:  I suspect that the boys might have gotten over it already.  I’m not entirely sure it was as fun as they were expecting.  I’m determined to do something with my project, though, and maybe we’ll try again tomorrow.

I’ve got absolutely nothing in the way of quilt or art related content today.   Oh wait:  I can send you to some places that might have something interesting:  one is my friend Carla who has been showing tutorials about eraser carving for the last few days.  Not something I’ve ever thought about doing, but after seeing her pictures, I might just have to try it.  I’ll put it on the list:  I think that makes idea number 1685 that I’ll probably never get to.

The other place you might go is the new blog of Ronda Beyer, a very talented machine quilter.  I’ve “known” Ronda from online for awhile, but only met her in person at Machine Quilter’s Showcase in Overland Park, Kansas two weeks ago.  Take particular note of her blog header: her quilts are just gorgeous.

I hit a particularly momentous milestone in book sales today, so I’ve informed my husband that we are going out for supper tonight.  I’d better go get ready (Ha!  Do you think the people at the bowling alley will care? LOL!)

CarlaB has moved her blog

My friend Carla has moved her blog to WordPress:

Feathered Fibers

She hasn’t moved her archives (yet), but has posted a few things at her new site.  You should go visit, she draws very cute cartoons, and always has lots of interesting (and varied) fiber related projects going on.
