Red postcard

Most of you probably know about the Fiberart For A Cause fundraiser in which artists from around the world created fiber postcards.  These postcards were used as thank yous for a $30 donation to the American Cancer Society.  The project has raised over $110,000 in just 18 months.

My friend Lynn got to go to Houston this year to Int’l Quilt Market and Festival, where the postcards were available. I asked her to make a donation and pick out a postcard for me.  I received mine today, and I’m very excited about what she picked:

dsc00367 Red postcardKeep in mind that she picked this out for me almost a month ago.  Do you suppose she could see into the future and know that I would be on a red kick right now? (Thank you, Lynn, for picking out such a cool postcard for me…)

A few weeks ago, somebody somewhere (on one of the many lists I belong to) was talking about how to display fiber postcards.  One of the ideas was a photo album-y thing they had gotten at IKEA.  Well, guess what!  I have one just like it, only mine came from Target about a million years ago.  I had only ever managed to stick one picture in it (there is a frame on the other side that flips over, but I wouldn’t use it on the postcards, as it "mats" it to a smaller size).

Now all I need to do is fill it up with more postcards!  I’ve thought about joining the art2mail project, but I think that involves more postcards than I can commit to making at this time.

How’s this for a deal: if you send me a postcard to fill up my frame, I’ll send you a postcard in return.  If you are interested in trading with me, send me an e-mail and I’ll give you my mailing address!

Stained Glass Pine Tree

About a year ago, a stained glass business opened in my small town. Dreamland Productions is the company — they do beautiful, beautiful work.

Over the weekend, they had a few pieces on display at our quilt show — one of them caught my eye, and today I decided to go get it and bring it home.

Isn’t it pretty?  It looks much better hanging in the sun.  I’m not exactly sure where to put it.  Maybe in one of the windows in my studio.  Maybe in one of the kitchen windows.

I love the shapes in the design.  It also kind of ties in with the great big pine tree we have out in front of our house.  I should get a picture of that tree some day.

More red things:

Dorothy’s ruby slippers
wagons
strawberries
clown nose
peppers
red hot candies

I did do some work on a project that is using some of my new red thingies, but it’s not far enough along to share, plus it’s for a contest, so I might not share it at all until after the contest is finished.

Speaking of the contest, it’s for a very good cause. Unlimited Possibilities is sponsoring the contest:  "Have a Heart" Competition — all entry fees will be donated to the American Heart Association, and after the quilts are done touring, they’ll be auctioned off to benefit the AHA.  Quilts have to be 1/4 red fabric and include at least one heart motif.  You can find out more about the contest on the Unlimited Possibilities website.

More Things That Are Red

Thanks to Vicki, I have a few more thing to add to my previous list.  I’m going to copy them here, and then add some more that I thought of on my own.  (Vicki’s additions to my list were in my original post to my other blog on my website.  I’m copying my posts here for completeness, but unfortunately I don’t know how to drag over the comments…)

lips
Cardinals (the bird and the team)
Scarlet Tanager
stop signs
Twizzlers
cranberry juice
nail polish

and a box in your mailbox…….

fire trucks
cherries
rubies
my Mom’s car
ketchup

Speaking of that red box.  Oh my goodness.  Thank you so much to Vicki for the fun things she sent me.  My red stash is growing by leaps and bounds. After the meeting I spoke at on Saturday, I had to visit Michael’s and found some more things to add to it myself:

First off, the red box!  I just giggled when I saw it!  Even the address was written in red ink!

The contents!  Make note of the dog treats with the red centers….

And the stuff I got at Michael’s:

I also got some red wool, but I’m already trying to knit something with that, so it didn’t make it into the pile of goodies for photographing.

So now, I guess the thing is that I need to actually start using some of this cool stuff to MAKE things!  I’ve got tons of ideas, but am short on a key ingredient — time.  Soon, though!  I really need to just sketch out some of the ideas so I don’t forget.  Not that I would ever forget anything.  LOL!

Lady Jane

It seemed wrong not to add a picture today, so here’s a funny little creature I made about a month ago.  She is a ladybug named Lady Jane.  I made her up out of my own head after looking at some pictures of funny stuffed animals I found on some other websites.  I’ll go looking for those links next week.  Too tired now….

She has her issues, but I think she’s kinda cute! Plus — she is RED!!!

Things That Are Red

Sounds like a Jeopardy category or something, doesn’t it?

I spent the day hanging quilts and making labels — getting ready for our local quilt show.  Plus, getting books ready — I get to have a book signing on Friday and Sunday.  Not to mention the longarm guild meeting on Sunday that I’ll be the guest speaker at!

I’m pretty well exhausted, but thought I’d spend a few minutes thinking about things that are red.  I didn’t get to work on any of my art projects today, so this will have to suffice:

roses
stoplights
stop signs
apples
poppies
my laundry room walls (aka my office)
my sectional
Santa’s suit
Rudolph’s nose
stripes on the American flag
tomatoes
Coca Cola Cans
Target’s logo
Candy cane stripes
Katie’s food dish
Mom’s car
a bunch of the quilts I’ve made.  too many too count.  well, too many for my tired brain to deal with right at the moment….
the frames of my new glasses
the frames of one of my first pairs of glasses — ala Sally Jessy Raphael.  Didn’t look any better on me than they did on her
some of the highlights in my hair…
Lightening McQueen (from the movie Cars…)
Winnie the Pooh’s shirt (in the Disney version…)
ladybugs (the pretty kind, not the obnoxious Asian Beetles)
Cy — ISU Cyclone’s mascot
Darth Vader’s Light saber (I think.  I must verify with my children…)
The color I’m going to paint my house when all of the siding as been replaced

If I weren’t so tired, I bet I could think of a bunch more.  Maybe later.
