Interesting search terms

I think it’s fascinating to see what search terms sometimes lead people to my blog.

Some I understand, some, though, make me scratch my head, and I feel compelled to go to Google to figure out what post they ended up at.

Like this one, from this morning:

Where to find tulle in Houston

I’m really sorry to the person that visited my blog via that particular search string, because clearly I have no idea where you can find tulle in Houston.  I hope you found a source.

(And for the record, the post that that search phrase brought them to was my post about my journal quilt that went to Houston.  It had a layer of tulle).

Yesterday, this phrase had me laughing a bit:

are piano recitals really important

Again, I’m pretty sure my blog didn’t help with the answer, but for the record, I would have to say that yes, I think piano recitals are very important.  I think it’s important for kids to take the time and effort to work on a particular piece of music enough that it is suitable for public performance.  I know that I’m not teaching concert pianists, but I think it’s important for the kids to have a chance to show their friends and family the fruits of their labor.

Better get cracking, more quilting to do!  Quilts to bind!  Messes to clean up!

New Blog Ring and Updating the Blogroll

My Blogroll has gotten a little out of hand, so you may notice that I’m categorizing the links and cleaning them up a bit.  I’m only doing a few at a time, because I don’t really have the desire to update all of them at one sitting.

Also, make note of a new Blog Ring showing up on my sidebar — the MQResource Blog Ring!  This is in conjunction with the new website/forum that I have been working on over the last few weeks.    Members of the ring are all machine quilters — I think we are up to about 16 members in the ring so far.

If you are interested in learning more about the blog ring, you can visit the ring home page:  MQResource Blog Ring Homepage.   At this time you do not have to be a member of the website to join the ring, but you might as well join us on the forums! It’s free and filling up with all sorts of great resource material for machine quilters, as well as a great way to stay connected with people who have a shared interest.

Reading blogs

Three posts in one day!

Some of my longarm quilting buddies are starting to blog on WordPress, and some of the people that were reading their old blogs at other places have commented about trying to remember to visit the new blogs.  I wanted to post and make a suggestion that the best way to keep up on the many blogs that you might be interested in is with an RSS reader.

Yes, I can hear you all saying “Huh?  What the heck is that?”

An RSS Reader is a piece of software that automatically checks all of the blogs that you want to keep track of and presents the new posts to you in one place.  If you want to comment, you can click on the blog post and be taken directly to the blog you were reading.

I used to use Bloglines (http://www.bloglines.com) but have recently switched to Google Reader (http://reader.google.com) .  Both are very easy to use.  Another one to try is http://www.blogarithm.com — that site will actually send you a daily e-mail with links to any blogs that have been updated.  These are just a few of the sites that are available.  There are also RSS readers that you can download to your computer, but I don’t have any experience with those.  You do have to create accounts at these places, but the sites are pretty easy to use.  When you find a blog you keep track of, you just highlight the web address of the site, enter it into the appropriate “add subscription” place in your reader of choice and…voila!  Easy peasy….

And to my friends and acquaintances that have recently moved their blogs to WordPress, I say welcome!  Add me to your blogroll, and I’ll add you to mine!

TTFN-

Suzanne
