Cherry Limeaid and Blueberry Pie

I started this quilt in 2014. It's been pieced for awhile now, but I struggled with how to quilt it -- spent a fair bit of time over the Christmas holidays ripping out a bunch, and then I went to town. I was really sick of it by the time I finished it up Thursday night. It's a big quilt, 103 by ... VIEW POST

2011 Printz Award Winners

So, my last post was all about how I intended to write more and sooner about the books I had read, and yet here it is, however many weeks (um, months...) later, and I haven't written another word. I'm going to just post about all of the 2011 books in one go (I've still been reading). And then move ... VIEW POST

Suzanne’s Printz Reading Project — 2010 Winner Summary

I have now read 52 books in this crazy project. I was telling someone yesterday that I was struggling to get through the book I was (then) currently reading -- but I *had* to finish it, no matter what, because of this completely arbitrary goal I had set myself. I did finish that book (The ... VIEW POST

“The Monstrumologist” by Rick Yancey

Dear book, It's me, not you. I think I can see why you won lots of awards, but you didn't do it for me. I didn't really care about your characters, and apparently I'm not as much of a fan of horror as I used to be, because now I'm grossed out and might have trouble sleeping tonight because of ... “Tales of the Madman Underground” by John Barnes

This big book was a little scary to start, the cover material did not make it sound like a book that I would enjoy, and it was a long one to boot. It was also a little slow to start, and I let myself get distracted by a couple of other things. Once I got going, and really got into it, though, I was ... VIEW POST

Holly and Mistletoe, Mostly Finished

I have a bad habit of calling a quilt finished when the quilting is done. It is not, in fact, completely done until the binding is all attached, but here I am again, telling you about a quilt that I've just "finished." I posted last weekend about it, whining about how I just a little bit of the ... VIEW POST

Instagram post 2197344641026691265_15732201 “Don’t blame your tools.” (I got my new carving tools yesterday and had to try them all out. This is my reminder that a good artist never blames her tools, but it sure is nice having really great tools. (I got Pfeil palm set C, plus one extra) #carvedecember #thepainteddiaries#suzanne_365

Instagram post 2196566338359576256_15732201 My people wanted new socks for our upcoming ski trip, so I found some @darntoughvermont ski socks big enough for their giant feet! The XxL have padding on the shin, marks XL socks have padding in the top of the foot, too. (He wears a 14, my other people wear a size 16 shoe 🙃). I decided I needed a sock stamp. These socks are guaranteed for life! (Swipe to see the socks... bet you can’t guess which ones are mine, lol) #carvedecember #suzanne_365 #thepainteddiaries
Instagram post 2196129456853187803_15732201 Reputation is what other people know about you. Honor is what you know about yourself. —Lois McMaster Bujold, my absolute favorite author, has been named a SFEA Grand Master. This is from her book A Civil Campaign. I think about this concept a lot. For my #carvedecember carving, I meant the rays to be shallower, but I slipped. I’m also terrible at lining them up. #thepainteddiaries#suzanne_365
Instagram post 2195863854498559253_15732201 The prompt was tea time, but I don’t do tea or coffee, so hot cocoa it was! I found this mug shortly after signing up for @everythingartuk’s Wanderlust 2020. While drinking and reading, I felt like I was being watched. I think he thought I had ice cream in my mug and was waiting for his turn. #kasiasadventcalendar #suzannesadventjournal #suzannegetsmessy#getmessyartjournal #dailyhobbes
Instagram post 2195281820554277242_15732201 White on white. I did some journaling with a clear Glaze pen on the predecorated page. The words are modeling paste through a stencil. My intention was to do some more layering after it was dry, but I kinda like it like this, so I’m going to leave it for now! #kasiasadventcalendar #suzannesadventjournal #thelayeredpage #suzannegetsmessy #getmessyartjournal
