Really pink

The pattern is a Miss Rosie’s pattern -  Sweet Tea.  The pattern quilt uses a pink background and I decided to screw up my courage and use the pink, too.

Wow.  It is really pink.

It is also made up of a bazillion 4 patches, and I’m pretty much over making them, but the units are all cut, so I’m powering through them in the evenings.  The day times are spent slaving away over the quilting machine.  Nothing to show at the moment, no pictures of one (yet…), and I’m not ready to show the other (yet…).  Everything else has been boring meanders.

Tomorrow starts the Journal Your Christmas project, and I’m going to take another stab.    I did a complete journal in 2007, but only got about 3 days done last year.  If you are interested in participating (and people do it in all different ways, from really fancy paper scrapbooks, to simple written journals), you can visit Shimelle’s website.

So that’s what I’m up to.  What kind of trouble are you getting in to?

Wish lists

Found, whilst cleaning my desk:

Dear mom,

Can I get a pet pheonix as a pet?  Then I could have a pet that never dies.  We could teach him so he wouldn’t fly away when we went for a walk.  And, we wouln’t need to go to the hospital ’cause a pheonix has tears with healing powers.

Love,

Will

[spelling reproduced from his handwritten note]

I’m thinking this isn’t such a bad idea, considering the cost of healthcare these days.
I didn’t think to date his note, but it’s within the past year, probably sometime last spring.

On Saturday before I left for my grocery shopping trip, I asked if they had any special requests. They started to list some things (video games, a new football jersey).  I stopped them:  “Guys, that’s your Christmas list.  I just wanted to know if you had any special food requests.”

With one voice they said:

“TWINKIES!”

Bullet, dodged (hopefully)

Mark spoke to a repair type person who is pretty sure that what happened is that the ducts (or something?) between the freezer and the refrigerator got iced over, and they just need to be defrosted.

Which, as you can probably imagine, means emptying the freezer.   The laundry room freezer is now packed FULL, and thankfully, my sister-in-law had room in her extra freezer for some stuff.  We’ll know sometime tonight if this is all better or not.

What I need to quit dodging is my desk, which is overflowing.  I should probably shut the computer off, because it’s really super easy to avoid cleaning when I can “work” on the computer…

Nice

This morning when Mark got up, he discovered that the kitchen refrigerator door was open, and had been all night.

We crossed our fingers that everything would be OK, but it was making a REALLY funny noise, and it never seemed to get cold again.  He suspects the fridge motor burned out…

So, after dinner, he and I spent the better part of 2 hours condensing the contents of 2 refrigerators into one.  I know that I’ve cleaned refrigerators somewhat recently, but apparently I’d still managed to hang on to some really old stuff, like from 2004 (salad dressing…).  Plus there were some leftovers-turned-science-projects that needed to go…

Everything all fits in the one fridge, but it is jam-packed full. (Thankfully the freezer on the kitchen fridge is still working, as there is no way we’d be able to condense everything into the laundry room freezer.  Wow.)

And we just got through refusing to re-up the Sears extended warranty.  However, Sears can’t even COME until December 7th, so we are looking for other repair options.

I wouldn’t be too concerned except for the fact that I am hosting Thanksgiving again this year.  Ironically, the LAST time I hosted Thanksgiving?  Yeah, pretty much the same timing:  the water heater failed the Sunday before and we had to get it replaced.

I think maybe I need to refuse to host major holidays if I’m going to have major appliance problems right before them.
