Merry Christmas to me!

I’ve been debating about whether or not to post this yet, but heck, I’m so excited about my new artwork, I just can’t wait to share!

One of the blogs in my blog reader is Diane Duda, don’t remember now how I found her blog, but I just love seeing the new works of art she shares.  A week or so ago, some artwork showed up that called out my name.  Really loudly.  So, I asked her how much, and then I asked Mark if he would get it for me for Christmas.  (If he’d said no, I probably would have gotten it anyway, which shows you how loudly it was calling my name…)

The package with the 3 pieces of art showed up over the weekend, and I’m just thrilled with them!  I still need to figure out where to hang them, though.  The thing is that I should technically wait until I actually “get” them from Mark for Christmas….

And I’m sorry, but you are going to end up with an earworm here in a minute….

whiskers Merry Christmas to me!

Whiskers on kittens….

kettles Merry Christmas to me!

Bright copper kettles….

mittens Merry Christmas to me!

It was the warm woolen mittens that sold me — she’s my favorite, but I love all 3.

(And in case you missed it, these are all girls in white dresses with blue satin sashes….)

My darling husband asked if he had to wrap them with brown paper and string.  Isn’t he sweet?

If you want to be reminded of the full lyrics, because they are now starting to swim around in your head, you can go here:  My Favorite Things.

Thank you to Diane for creating these gorgeous pieces of art (and for granting me permission to post the pictures), and thank you to Mark for buying them for my for Christmas.

p.s.  Diane’s blog has links to her Etsy and Ebay stores, and you should also check out her Flickr account to see what else she has created.  Her frogs are a stitch!

Christmas Journal — Day 3

2085047692 4419428196 Christmas Journal Day 3

I decided to go with a slightly goofy photo for the card itself, as well as using both the card and the really goofy picture for today’s journal.

The upper right text reads:

When the boys were little we sent out long letters with a full page of photos that looked back over an entire year. It’s been several years since we’ve sent out anything — no one (me) has been in the mood to mess with cards.

I took today’s journal prompt as the sign that it was time to send cards out again.

The lower left text reads:

Trying to get a serious picture of the boys is something of a challenge. I’m not even sure why I attempt it! The picture I chose (and this outtake) let’s their true personalities shine through.

There is still much to be done before the cards can be sent out — envelopes to order, address list to make, design approval (from Mark), stamps, to buy, and etc, but I feel good about having gotten this far already this year!

I added the chipboard letters to make the title at the very end of the process. It wasn’t until I was doing so that I realized the irony of the word itself, and the placement over the two “cards” that were making a funny face at the camera. Even when I’m not paying attention, I’m all about the cheap puns, don’t you know???

Ice Day??

Instead of a Snow Day, we have an Ice Day today.  The gravel roads are sheets of ice, and since so many of our school’s students are from farms and outlying communities….no school.

The boys were excited to stay home until they learned that they were going to have to have to have their haircut and get their picture taken for the front of this year’s Christmas cards.

Today’s Journal Your Christmas promptwas about cards, and I decided to go ahead and take the time to actually make our cards.   More on that (and today’s page) later.

For now, though, I wanted to share an outtake from our photo shoot:

Aren’t they cute?  Anybody want them?

p.s.  The UPS truck was here with an important package.  Luckily the boys were in the basement and completely unaware of the delivery, so the knowledge of their big gift remains safe.
